“Today, as much as at any time, we need men of great faith and men who great in prayer. These are the two cardinal virtues which make men great in the eyes of God.” E.M. Bounds
A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step and, for Christians, that step must be prayer! Before we give…we must pray. Before we go…we must pray! Prayer must be the fabric that weaves together every facet of a believer’s life as we constantly interact with the Father, following Him through every minute of every day.
Prayer must come first! Someone once said that you can do more than pray after you’ve prayed, but you can do nothing but pray until you’ve prayed! How true that is! If you are a committed believer of Jesus Christ know that we are called to intercede on behalf of those we know…and those we don’t! Your prayers are powerful and God hears them. Your prayers can, will and do change things, whether here at home or halfway around the world!
So, are you ready to conquer the world for Christ, right from your own home? Stop by our Global Outreach Center in the fellowship hall of our main sanctuary and pick up a free copy of our Missions Prayer Book. In it you can find information on each of our missionaries we support, what God is doing through them, and specific needs you can pray for! If you are looking for information on a global scale, you can find some great resources here that will help get started praying for the unreached and the least reached of the world.
“Now, brethren, we wish to make known to you the grace of God which has been given in the churches of Macedonia, that in a great ordeal of affliction their abundance of joy and their deep poverty overflowed in the wealth of their liberality. For I testify that according to their ability, and beyond their ability, they gave of their own accord, begging us with much urging for the favor of participation in the support of the saints, and this, not as we had expected, but they first gave themselves to the Lord and to us by the will of God.” 2 Corinthians 8:1-5
In Paul’s second letter to the church in Corinth he details an incredible story of generosity among the Macedonian churches. Even in times of hardship they continued to give in abundance for the work of the church. The same commitment is needed today in order to fulfill the enormous task we face in fulfilling the great commission.
The Great Commission of our Lord Jesus Christ is given multiple times in the New Testament. In each of those we have a command to go! But what does that really mean? Well, if you look it up in the original Greek, it actually means to GO! God desires for each of us to witness first hand His work and be a part of what He is doing!
If you’re ready to take the next step, stop by our Global Outreach Center to check out opportunities to get involved both here at home and around the world. We have opportunities to serve almost every week here at home and multiple trips going overseas to work with our missionary partners. You can find a list of trips by simply clicking on our 2015 Mission Trips here on this site our simply email Pastor Steve at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Our JCF Medical Team has returned home safely from Southern India! Our team was able to visit our mission organization’s base in Hyderabad to meet with leaders to learn about their vision …
…and see their book distribution warehouse where tens of thousands of Christian books and literature go out all over the country of India.
Four full days of rural medical clinics gave us tremendous opportunities to not only reach out to individuals who were hurting physically but to also minister spiritually to so many lost in darkness. Though only there for a few short days, the trust established in these remote areas is invaluable as look toward future ministry opportunities.
We were able to offer basic eye exams, dental exams and treat various aches, pains and disease through primary care. Though conditions extremely basic and totally outdoors under the shade of tents, we were received with such grateful hearts of those who were sincerely appreciative of what we had to offer.
One of the highlights of our time in the field was sharing with group after group of women who had been dedicated as temple prostitutes or Jogini as they are locally known. After spending many hours sharing God’s story of creation and redemption and explaining the cost they would incur if they chose to follow Jesus, many made the firm commitment to accept His gift and worship Him alone.
Our final day in the field gave us opportunity to do general medical exams at a local school. Our interaction with the children was a tremendous blessing. These children were Dalit, or the ‘untouchable’ caste, a segment of India’s population marginalized for generations, given over to the most menial of labor and subjected to horrific degradation and humiliation. To see these children so bright and happy, receiving an opportunity to receive an education and better their lives was truly encouraging.
As we left, thankful for a few days in our future without curry and dreading the plane ride home, each of us were encouraged, inspired and excited about what God has in store for us as we follow Him back to India!
UPDATE – 5/31/2015
1 John 3:17-18 says “If anyone has this world’s goods and sees his brother in need but shuts off his compassion from him – how can God’s love reside in him? Little children, we must not love in word or speech, but in deed and truth.”
Dear Joy members, I thank God for your kind hearts and commitment to live out God’s word! As a result of your incredible generosity, Joy Christian Fellowship is able to give over $72,000 to the earthquake relief efforts in Nepal through the ministry of Samaritans Purse. Not only did we meet our original goal, we far exceeded it! All praise, glory and honor be to God as we work together to share the love of Jesus Christ around the world and meet the needs of those affected by this tragedy in Nepal!
Since the earthquake in Nepal on the 25th of April measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale, there have been a total of 230 subsequent earthquakes and aftershocks to hit the region. Over 750,000 households have been either damaged or completely destroyed. Nearly 500,000 students have been affected by having classrooms heavily damaged or totally destroyed. The death toll approaches 9000 in Nepal alone with India, China and Bangladesh also affected.
Our deadline to give to this initial offering is fast approaching as we near the end of May! If you have given I thank you from the bottom of my heart! If you haven’t yet, would you pray about how God would have you be a part of what He is doing in Nepal? Your gift can change lives for the glory of God and bring salvation in the midst of chaos!
Love in Christ,
For nearly 2000 years it has been the responsibility of the church to carry out the Great Commission of our Lord Jesus Christ and take His message of love, hope and restoration to the world! Here at Joy Christian Fellowship, we take that commission seriously as we endeavor to reach out to a lost and dying world with a heartfelt compassion toward those who are marginalized and a genuine love for all mankind created in God’s image.
It’s our belief that God has placed a call on each of our lives to be involved in what He is doing both here at home and around the world and therefore it is our sincere desire that each and every member of the body of Christ find their unique role in this epic adventure! Here at Joy Christian Fellowship we are on a journey….a journey to love the least and reach the lost! As a matter of fact, we’re on a mission…will you join us?
