Can God Really use ME?

use me

“Then the angel of the Lord came and sat under the oak that was in Ophrah, which belonged to Joash the Abiezrite as his son Gideon was beating out wheat in the wine press in order to save it from the Midianites. The angel of the Lord appeared to him and said to him, “The Lord is with you, O valiant warrior””
Judges 6:11-12

Can God really use me?
The only ability you need to be used by God…
Is your availability!
If God could use a man like Gideon, He can use anybody! As we read the story of Gideon in the book of Judges we find him thrashing his wheat inside of a wine press in order to hide it from the bullying Midianites. Now you have to understand that thrashing wheat is something that was normally done outside. As you threw the wheat into the air, the wind would carry away the chaff and the wheat would fall to the ground in a pile. This had to be quite a task to accomplish this inside without the help of the wind! Difficult as it was, Gideon chose to attempt it because he was afraid of getting beat up by a bully and losing his wheat.
The interesting thing is that no matter how much Gideon looks like a coward to us as we read the story, God sees things much differently. The angel says to him “The Lord is with you, O valiant warrior.” Valiant warrior? This guy is hiding in a winepress and he’s a valiant warrior? You’ve got to be kidding me! This is the guy that God is going to use to deliver the nation of Israel and lead them into battle? The answer is yes! Throughout scripture God chooses to use those who are weak and humble so that He may receive all the glory. Those who will submit to the call of God and humble themselves before him can expect to be used in great and mighty ways.
The first question I normally get from someone considering their first mission trip is “Can God really use me?” My answer is a swift, resounding YES! Not only can God use you, but God wants to use you! As a matter of fact, that’s His plan. No matter how undeserving we are, God gives each of us the privilege of becoming personally involved in what He is doing here on earth. That’s just one of the perks of being a child of God! His grace allows us to be a part of His work even though none are worthy.
“But I don’t have anything to offer.” That’s the next statement I hear. The fact of the matter is that God created you and He created you with the exact DNA that you need to accomplish the purpose He put you here for! There are people on the mission field that only you can reach. You can relate to some people in a way that another person never could. There are skills that you have that are unique and that God can use to win souls for the kingdom.

qualified
It’s true – the only ability that you need to be used by God is your availability! Are you unqualified? Great! God doesn’t call the qualified, He qualifies the called! Are you nervous? So was Gideon! The Lord said “Go in this your strength…have I not sent you? Surely I will be with you…” Do you feel a little overwhelmed? Nobody who has ever left for the mission field can say that they weren’t overwhelmed at the task that lay before them. The thing to remember is that none of us can save anybody, that’s God’s job. We’re just the messengers. If we are faithful to deliver the message, God will be faithful to bring fruit to our ministries.
Following God to the mission field will be one of the greatest adventures of your life. Never underestimate what God can do through you to change lives for His glory. Dream big! Don’t put God in a box! Humble yourself and see what God will do…O valiant warrior!

Love in Christ,
