To the ends of the earth!

Only as we begin to understand our existence in regards to living with a Biblical worldview, do we truly understand our obligation to the Great Commission.  In short, our purpose as a body of believers is to be a witness for God’s love and salvation to a lost and dying world.  But the question arises – where does that obligation end?  With our neighbor?  Our community?  Our country?  No, Jesus said:

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”  Acts 1:8

Perhaps Mark said it best when he said:

Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. Mark 16:15

So it’s pretty obvious from Scripture that Continue reading To the ends of the earth!

Are You Worried? Just Worship!

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:6-7

Turn your worry into worship!

God’s in control of every situation!

Many times I see worried looks on the faces of those leaving for their first mission trip.   Excitement mixed with apprehension! For many, it will be the first time on foreign soil, far from the comforts that we have become so accustomed to here in the United States. For others it will be the first time away from family or friends. It’s only natural to be a little uneasy of something you’ve never experienced before. Congratulations, you’re normal! Of course we can expect to be Continue reading Are You Worried? Just Worship!

Can God Really use ME?

use me

“Then the angel of the Lord came and sat under the oak that was in Ophrah, which belonged to Joash the Abiezrite as his son Gideon was beating out wheat in the wine press in order to save it from the Midianites. The angel of the Lord appeared to him and said to him, “The Lord is with you, O valiant warrior””
Judges 6:11-12

Can God really use me?
The only ability you need to be used by God…
Is your availability!
If God could use a man like Gideon, He can use anybody! As we read the story of Gideon in the book of Judges we find him thrashing his wheat inside of a wine press in order to hide it from the bullying Midianites. Now you have to understand that thrashing wheat is something that was normally done outside. As you threw the wheat into the air, the wind would carry away the chaff and the wheat would fall to the ground in a pile. This had to be quite a task to accomplish this inside without the help of the wind! Difficult as it was, Gideon chose to attempt it because he was afraid of getting beat up by a bully and losing his wheat.
The interesting thing is that Continue reading Can God Really use ME?

Are You Ready to Get in the Game?

Game 2

“And He was saying to them, “The Harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore beseech the Lord of the Harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.
Go; behold I send you out as lambs in the midst of wolves.”
Luke 10:2-3

Are you ready to get in the game?
God needs players who are willing to get off the bench and into the game!
I recently saw a television commercial for a company of which I have forgotten the name. I don’t watch much television and even fewer commercials but what caught my eye was a tennis match, presumably Wimbledon, with a packed stadium. As the competitors battled it out, one fellow in a suit and tie decided he could help out so he vaulted the railing, whipped out a tennis racket and leaped onto the court, vigorously returning the opponent’s volleys. As other members of the previously mundane audience saw what he had done, they too began to leap to the court, one by one, until everyone in the stands was rushing to get in the game.
Though I realize this was meant to be comical and nothing more than a spoof, I wonder what the world would be like if Christians exhibited the same enthusiasm to help their team win. Someone once said that the only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing. You see, being passive isn’t being neutral. In effect you’re saying to the enemy, “go ahead and do what you want, you don’t have to worry about me, I’m not in the game.”
Now don’t get me wrong,  Continue reading Are You Ready to Get in the Game?

Nepal Earthquake Relief – Thank you!

UPDATE – 5/31/2015

1 John 3:17-18 says “If anyone has this world’s goods and sees his brother in need but shuts off his compassion from him – how can God’s love reside in him?  Little children, we must not love in word or speech, but in deed and truth.”

Dear Joy members, I thank God for your kind hearts and commitment to live out God’s word!  As a result of your incredible generosity,  Joy Christian Fellowship is able to give over $72,000 to the earthquake relief efforts in Nepal through the ministry of Samaritans Purse.  Not only did we meet our original goal, we far exceeded it!  All praise, glory and honor be to God as we work together to share the love of Jesus Christ around the world and meet the needs of those affected by this tragedy in Nepal!

Nepal Earthquake

Since the earthquake in Nepal on the 25th of April measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale, there have been a total of 230 subsequent earthquakes and aftershocks to hit the region.  Over 750,000 households have been either damaged or completely destroyed.  Nearly 500,000 students have been affected by having classrooms heavily damaged or totally destroyed.   The death toll approaches 9000 in Nepal alone with India, China and Bangladesh also affected.

Our deadline to give to this initial offering is fast approaching as we near the end of May!  If you have given I thank you from the bottom of my heart!  If you haven’t yet, would you pray about how God would have you be a part of what He is doing in Nepal?  Your gift can change lives for the glory of God and bring salvation in the midst of chaos!

Love in Christ,

P Steve
